Event organizers today confirmed the receipt of the fifth entry for the 34th America’s Cup in 2013. The official announcement by the team is expected in the coming weeks.

“On the heels of our first major partnership in Louis Vuitton, we’re extremely pleased to make another significant announcement today in the confirmation of our fifth team,” said Iain Murray, Regatta Director for the 34th America’s Cup and CEO of America’s Cup Race Management (ACRM).

Nearly 160 years old, the America’s Cup has become one of the world’s leading sporting competitions. Focused on creating a new era for the America’s Cup, the America’s Cup Event Authority is transforming the event for media and online broadcasting to deliver an enhanced viewer experience.

In addition, ACRM is transforming the on-the-water experience through the introduction of elements that will deliver unparalled racing competition, including new course formats, racing rules and the wing-sailinged AC72 catamaran, a groundbreaking new boat design.

The entry period for the 34th America’s Cup runs November 1, 2010 to March 31, 2011.

Hoping it's a French team. Not having the French multihull capabilities in this AC would be disappointing. I doubt that we Canadians are ready to make an entry yet, too fricking cold out to do anything but try and stay warm for now.

Today, ALEPH-ÉQUIPE DE FRANCE announced that it has been confirmed as an official challenger for the 34th America’s Cup.

“Representing one’s country is a huge privilege, and one more reason to be at the top of our game and not disappoint. In line with its strategy, ALEPH – EQUIPE DE FRANCE will continue to bring together French talent focusing on performance-oriented team players,” said Bertrand Pacé, team co-leader, in the team’s press announcement.

ALEPH – ÉQUIPE DE FRANCE is the fourth international team to become an official challenger.

“This is a moment of pride and emotion for every single member of the team. The team spirit prevalent inthe French national teams of handball, athletics, swimming and more recently the superb French Olympic Sailing Team is a source of inspiration for ALEPH – EQUIPE DE FRANCE: success is built on the strength of a team, both in individual and team sports,” said Alain Gautier, team co-leader.

The entry period for the 34th America’s Cup runs November 1, 2010 to March 31, 2011. This is the four challenger announced in just one month since the entry period opened.
