The Dream is almost realized, the Speed Dream (http://www.mxspeeddream.com/main.html) that is!

The 27' prototype is now stepped at the Lyman Morse Boatworks in Maine. There are still a few bit and pieces to assemble then she will be dry sailed prior to a wet launch. The 150 kilo 10' canting keel will operate via a continuous spectra line fed
Harken winch with a small electric motor. The bump you see on the cabin top is there for the ram to maneuver.

We spoke with the main man behind the project this morning, Vlad Murnikov, who 1st came up with the concept on November 9th 2009. " I shared the idea with a number of friends and colleagues at the time" Vlad says" They almost all said the same thing. You're crazy, it will never work!". "This prototype is the 1st step in designing a much larger open ocean racer" Vlad continues " But we have to do these things in steps, 1st make sure everything works, then learn how to sail the boat"

In that regard, Cam Lewis will become the test pilot. "Cam know how to fly a hull on a catamaran" Says Vlad " Now he will need to learn how to fly a keel!" (Cam was a crew member of the 1st boat to break the Mythical 80 days around the world Jules Verne Record aboard the massive Catamaran Commodore Explorer in 1988)

"But don't expect any records with the 27' prototype," Vlad warns "We need to learn how to sail the boat, and get her up to speed, but the weight of two crew will be counterproductive in a boat this size.

The boat should be splashed in 2-3 weeks, and will be test sailed in Maine, then is scheduled to make a journey to
Marblehead and Newport before she is shipped overseas for a European tour later in the fall!

It looks very fast, I hope the swinging keel releases fast enough during gybes and tacks!
