Time to 0pen the transom of our Moore 24, More Uff Da. James Betts Enterprises is taking it on. #26 is sitting next to a Bieker 41 and an 82'er, both new construction.

*.ester solid side panels, balsa cored floor, new rudder tube and bearings, new tiller and push pits. Should be a fun project!

here are the first photo's....

I see some more Moores (s'moores?) are going this way. Seems logical. Have there been any negatives associated with the mod? Issues related to a shorter rudder tube? I can see the cooler must now be sturdily tied down lest the vital beverages wash out the back.....
It looks as if the transom opening is different from the mods I've seen before (Easom, etc.). Is yours different, or am experiencing an Optyrectinacke illusion?

I thought that I read Somewere that this mod was only allowed by the class to "boats that've were damaged beyond repair" is this still the rule or has the Rum befuddled me mind?

Upgrading to the 56 burger model?

You might consider a pony keg size pocket in the cockpit floor, if the class rules are okay with it.

There was something in the past about damage, but I don't remember the full rule. Currently it's an approved modification as long as it's done with structure and original construction in mind, not to make the boat lighter and unsafe. My transom did have some damage though, the starboard pushpit got ripped out and there is deck damage and a crack down the transom near the HIN tag. All will be fixed though.

These pictures look different because the hole isn't entirely cut out yet, more to come....

I'm thinking the sausages might slide of the grill if you mount it in the position.

No ----
This is the down wind configuration. The chef/tactician is able to prep meals by keeping his feet in the transom step and leaning back against the somewhat loose transom lifelines. He/she is able to stay warm and by huddling behind the Grill. deploying the hood/spray guard during firehose conditions allows "Chefititian" to consult navigation and performance data on an i-pad in comfort. Additionally "Chefititian" can research various bacon recipes in order to prepare distracting morsels that can be tossed at the competition. In extreme situations, smoke can be created to mask the boat and crew from competitor spies.
This is the new ultra race Moore... the Grill is a vital piece of equipment.

It might help to also have a CFMSD on the boat to keep the crew hungry....I hear it is mandatory equipment on most SC boats!

Just say n'

Ballard Sailor
12-28-2012, 08:23 PM
Yeah, they made us use original materials in the mod, balsa core, poly resin. The battens you see behind the side walls will be pulled out, they are there only to keep the sides in-line as it sets up.

Are MOB pole slots still deriguer?

Ballard Sailor
01-16-2013, 09:14 AM
No, but it's what I have so I kept the hole - otherwise I have to invest in one of those inflatable things... Many of the boats have glassed it over, but I still do Cat 2/1 races so need a spot for the pole.
