Howie Hamlin and Andy Zinn have cleaned up at the 2017 5o5 North American's in Buzzards Bay.
The pair's 3rd such victory in 4 years. Howie now 64 and Andy a mere 43, remain a force in the
classic high performance dinghies even today, despite sailing against sailors often 20 plus years their juniors.
With a wide variety of conditions, they managed to take 5 bullets and a pair of deuces in the 9 race event.

When asked how they manage to succeed, Howie indicates "Time on the boat. There are no shortcuts and it takes preparation,
practice and boat handling, simply put" Howie and Andy travel near and far to compete ...

As it turns out, the fog had not ...

4 June 2000 - Team Wichard emailed me. "A good day on the race course. Perfect weather and great sailing. Winds on the beam and just forward. Very variable, and a lot of work, to choose the right sail configurations and trim. There is a lot of sea grass. I'm out of the Gulf Stream. I received email from Trouble No Trouble and 806. Both are well, and in good spirits. I was unable to hail Pocket Rocket on VHF this evening.

For Swiss RS:X sailor Mateo Sanz Lanz, success on the third day of racing at the 2017 World Series Cup Miami presented by Sunbrella was as much about what he didn't do as what he did do. In a gusty and shifty northeasterly breeze that moved about like an over-caffeinated flyweight boxer, Lanz finished first, third and fourth in three races.

"Today was really shifty and gusty and during the races there were many changes of positions; it was crazy," said Lanz, who finished 14th at the Rio 2016 Olympics. "I didn't know really well what to do, [I tried to] just manage my position ...

Even sailors who have committed in advance to another campaign traditionally take some time away from the sport after the Olympic Games. The question is usually how much time is needed to refresh the batteries without getting too stale. Decades ago these hiatuses were usually measured in years. Now it's more likely to be weeks or months.
The British duo of Ben Saxton and Nicola Groves finished ninth at Rio 2016 in the mixed multihull and then took the rest of the year off. They got back into the Nacra 17 for the first time a few weeks ago ...
