• Weta or Not

    Wetas have a busy fall lineup of races in San Francisco and San Diego and New York. This last weekend’s Multihull Invitational hosted by the Richmond Yacht Club on San Francisco Bay hosted 22 catamarans and 9 Wetas for two days of racing on San Francisco Bay. Although Winds remained light in the 10 to 15kt range six races were run with leads changing places many times across the course. At the end of the event new Weta Owner Gordon Lyon of Sausalito took first place. David Anderson (also new to the Weta) won two races on Saturday but had to miss Sunday racing. Overall second place was David Berntsen and Bob Hyde.

    Here’s the schedule for Weta events through October;

    - Mission Bay Yacht Club Multihull Cat Fight – San Diego, CA –– October 9 & 10

    The pic is Chris Kitchen of Weta Marine (New Zealand) doing performance (crash) testing on the Weta in high wind conditions. This image was taken moments after the bow buried deep and popped the boat out of the water like a cork. The next step in the process you can guess. Somehow I think Chris was enjoying himself – if you look closely he’s got a big smile on his face. Nothing like a fun day of sailing your performance trimaran – fun for the whole family.
