July PNW Cruise Day 30 & 31
Cowichan Bay Regatta, Vancouver Island, British Columbia

The Grand Finale of our July Cruise is the Cow Bay Regatta. We joined up on Arne Hammer’s Santa Cruz 27 Norn for the weekend and had a great time with friends in some very tight racing against 2 Hotfoot 27’s and a Nautr-Swan 36.

After 2 races on Saturday we where sitting in 2nd place and it was time for the outstanding Cow Bay Beach Dinner of Margarita’s, Steaks, Salad and Potatoes followed by dancing on the beach. Sunday dawned and it was time to battle it out for first as we were only 1 point behind. Things didn’t work as planned on Sunday’s long course and after an interesting mark rounding by a Melges 24 we got pushed back and ended up fighting for 2nd place. We held on barely. Thanks Arne for a great Finale to our cruising adventure!

After Sunday’s racing it was time to pull the anchor and high tail it over to Roche Harbor to clear customs before 8pm. We made it just barely and once we cleared customs we motored out into the bay and rafted up to Jim Miller’s Mac65 ‘Phoenix,’ that he had left anchored in the harbor when he went back to Seattle. Showers at the Marina and a walk on the beach followed by some great sleep after the activities of the past weekend.
