Thread: BYC Port Huron to Mackinac NOR

  1. #181
Well, it's obviously a starting point. I have done many ORR miles as well, and there is a reason the three biggest races in the states use it (N-B, ChiMac, Transpac). It is better straight line than any other over disparate boats.

Like i said, I think the disagreement of how much of the rule needs to be implemented is the crux here. Using half of ORR is an order of magnitude above any one number. Just a few inputs (<5) would put it so far out of reach, it would become a non discussion.

    Anyhoo,
I am over silly handicaps, we should talk about beer or something worth while. Any of you guys going over to Chicago for that Mac?

Hell, I'd love to see ORR used for what it really can do, I just don't see any easy, cheap and accurate way to do it quite yet. Racing under it the way it is currently implemented is like drinking a Miller Lite in a micro brewery. Kind of pointless.

Doing both Macs again this year. I'd be happy to buy you a beer or two on either end of the Chi Mac. I will be around CYC Friday afternoon/evening for a while, and will be on the Island for a day or so before delivering to Port Huron.

Nice, we'll certainly have to get up.

Well, you can have your opinion of course, but the fact is ORR is significantly more accurate then IRC in a number for number basis. It really doesn't favor any boat, where IRC clearly does.
A Cal 40 rates slower than a Dehler DB1 under ORR. The anomalies are there if you look for them.

Well, they are even in PHRF, so it's not really a stretch.

Anyway, we are onto beer discussion, specifically who is buy some and when during the Macs.

I am doing both races but not sure if I am going to get by CYC pre-race. If I do, I will swing by. I checked out your team FB site, looks like you have a fun program. Is that the sail maker Dave Flynn you have racing with you? If so, I did a few races with him back in the 1D48 days. Always a great guy.

Yep, that is one in the same. We go way back to the days when Larry left Sobstad and started Quantum.

Who are you sailing with? If I don't catch you before hand, will see you at the island.

The only J120 racing the Cove Island course is Hot Ticket. Talking to the J120 group the earlier post is not true, they are NOT voting to switch over to the Cove Island course, they are staying on the Shore course. It will be great racing for us. How is it that these thread always turn over to rating rules?

Does the Cal 40 have Porno-Vision?

    First, who is this?

Second, I think I would know whether or not the decision has been made for the 120's on which course to race as I have been in several discussions with the owners and their thoughts on the matter. The deadline to make a decision is the 30th and at this point the only 120 that is 100% committed to a course is Ticket
