    Tour D' Base

Oracle Racing swung open its base door to the Pier 80 Facilities to accredited media types and revealed some of the ongoing projects.
The cavernous warehouse has been neatly transformed into a very tidy, clean facility, sans heat. The media crews of 100 or so bodies
were broken into 3 more manageable groups and escorted by 3 staff members, Bradd Webb, "Tuggy" and Ian "Fresh" Burns

The tour showed a few highlight of years past, including a nice display of the Americas Cup Time Line, The enormous wing
suspended from the ceiling, 45's repair and storage area, the sail loft which staffs 5-8 sailmakers and 6 or 7 modified
cycling machine made to work out the arms instead of the legs.

The tour was aimed at the general population audience but questions asked ranged from insightful to completely clueless

Dogzilla, of course was the fascination of most, and she languishes, outside the facility, still in here protective shrink wrap on
the cradle she was placed on when she 1st arrived over a year ago. When asked if she is to ever sail again, Tugboat replied
"I hope not" and went on to explain the pin and needles day to day operations on getting the beast to sail, with the built in
sensors alarms constantly going off, and the crew just praying they could finish the day, much less the cup without breaking,
not to mention the tedious prospect of getting the boat ready to sail everyday. Dogzillas next destination? Tied up to a mooring
on display next to the rebuilt Pier 30-32, sans the rig in 2013 for the Americas Cup!

We were also allowed a look inside the "Top Secret" boat building room, sans cameras,
were the two halves off one hull were just getting set to be popped out of there enormous molds. They were literally just
taking apart the segmented custom autoclave used to cook the vacuum bagged prepreg carbon shell. From there, they
will be laminated together and outfitted with the bits and pieces required for structural integrity, and assembled with the
other bits and pieces and then launched in July. A VERY tidy operation inside the room, very unlike most other laminating
    facilities I have ever visited!

Afterwards, we were escorted to the shiny new media center and introduced to 4 members of the team, a guy named Russell,
some kid named Jimmy they say was the youngest helmsman to win an Americas Cup, a local Guy from San Rafael, who was
the 1st to win sailings Triple Crown, and Dirk Krammers, who has more America's Cup winning designs than anyone else in history.
And the presenter gal, Jenny Tulloch, no slouch of her own, rounded out the presentation.
(Video high light from the 40 minute presentation to follow.)

From there we were instructed to get up to the Ferry Building, lickety-split, to catch a ride on Franklin Roosevelt's old
"Floating Oval Office" the Potomac for a ride out to catch the 45's do some fly bys.

The former Coast Guard Cutter, is a fine piece of history, and make an elegant if not rustic mean to tour the bay,
but lined with heaps of media all jostling for position to get a view, it is well, not the greatest shooting platform.

It did however provide for a slightly more elevated platform for the fly bys, and the sense of security knowing the 45'
carbon rockets could run into you, but not over you!

At the end of the day, South Beach YC Commodore, Paul Oliva opened up the club for a private party to relax and enjoy!
We even got to see the cats get towed past right about quitting time! Thanks Paul!

Thanks for posting the entire press conference - seemed like a fairly high level of interest from the press and some good questions as well.

    Nicely done.
