    The Hood River Yacht Club welcomes sailors to the fifth annual “Double Damned." We are looking forward to another epic race!

    Courses: Racing will be from a start line in the vicinity of Cascade Locks, Oregon to a finish line in the vicinity of The Dalles,Oregon. This is a 41 mile west to east course in an area of typically strong prevaling westerlies. A short course may be adopted and shall be defined by 1500 on the Friday preceeding the race. Further ammendments to the course may be made in the Sailing Instructions or at the competitor's meeting on the day of the race.

    Rules: The race will be governed by the current rules of sailing as defined in The Racing Rules of Sailing, 2009-2012.

    Eligibility and Entry: This race is open to HRYC members and non members.

    Classes to Race: PHRF, One Design (five boat minimum), NFS

    Fees: Registration fee includes one T-shirt , bus shuttle for one passenger, and Friday night dinner for crew and family

    $60 Standard Registration - through August 3rd
    $75 Late Registration - After August 3rd
    New this year: Fleet Pricing - $40 per boat when you register as part of a fleet of five or more boats!

    Friday night RBS Battens BBQ - Free
    Saturday Night Dinner - $ 15 / plate
    Extra Shuttle passenger - $10
    Extra T-shirts - $ 15

    Operating and Equipment Requirements: All vessels participating shall comply with USCG safety regulations for their vessel and should be prepared to sail in heavy wind, after dark, and in the presence of commercial vessel traffic. Competitors should wear a PFD while sailing. An operating VHF radio must be carried.

    Schedule of events

    Friday, Aug 10th, 2012:

    1600-2000 Check in, registration and launching. Cascade Locks Marine Park

    1900-2100 Continued Late Registration and check in
    RBS Battens BBQ dinner free for all competitors!
    Camping available on site

    Saturday, Aug 11th, 2012 – Race Day!

    0730 – Shuttle departing from The Dalles Marina with service to Cascade Locks Marine Park.

    0900 – Competitor’s Meeting

    0955 - Warning signal

    1000 – First class start

    1800 – Party begins at Hood River Yacht Club.

    1900 – Dinner and awards at HRYC

    Limited camping will be available at HRYC

    Ratings: Local ratings shall be assigned for vessels using northern California data as a guideline.

    Sailing Instructions: Sailing instructions will be included in race packets at check in, and may be available on line prior to the race.

    Time Limit: No boats shall be scored as finished after 2200.

    Scoring: The Low Point scoring system will be used. Handicap corrections will be based on Time on Distance. Sailors will be asked to record the GPS time upon initially passing beneath the Hood River Bridge Span.

    Protests: A competitor’s protests must be filed in writing with the PRO within 1 hour of their finishing the race.
    Prizes: Prizes will be awarded for first - third (Corrected time) in each class. First to finish will be recognized with boat name and course time on the Double Damned Cup perpetual trophy.

    Launching and Logistics: Boats shall be ramp launched in Cascade Locks and ramp recovered in The Dalles. A water depth of 6 feet is expected over the end of the ramps, however lower depths are possible.

    Moorage: Moorage will be available in Cascade Locks and The Dalles on a first come first serve basis
    Unsecured in Cascade Locks – free. Secured is $15 per night under 30 ft, $20 / night over 30 ft.
    The Dalles Moorage: $10 / night

    Camping – Cascade Locks $15 / night. Dry camping for 2 tents or one RV.

    Shuttle: A shuttle service will operate on Saturday morning allowing competitors to leave their trailers and cars at the race finish in The Dalles

    Oh, yeah, now there is a recidivist award! Who was the first boat to travel to do this race? Gonna miss it this year, have a blast and be safe!
    A little disorganization goes a long way toward fun sailing.
