When we try to pick out anything by itself, we find it hitched to everything else in the Universe." - John Muir

When whales were at their historic populations, before their numbers were reduced, it seems that whales might have been responsible for removing tens of millions of tonnes of carbon from the atmosphere every year. Whales change the climate. The return of the great whales, if they are allowed to recover, could be seen as a benign form of geo-engineering. It could undo some of the damage we have done, both to the living systems of the sea, and to the atmosphere.

Some non stop breaching action near Mile Rock!
Hope they don't do that at the Bonita Buoy on Saturday.

Just enough pressure to keep the boats moving without scaring any wives or children!

Sunday's race in the estuary is a throw-back to the origins of the 2nd half opener. 1990 and 1991, maybe even 92, they ran two race courses in the estuary on Sunday (big boats further west, little boats in front of the club). A low-key race and mixing crew up or bringing new sailors aboard was encouraged. Blow out the cobwebs from the party that lasted until 0200+ Saturday night.

And I'll never forget the night that someone ran into the bar, said 'be quiet, you won't believe what's going on in the pool', to which we all ran out onto the upper deck to see. Swear the building was leaning toward the pool. And then we heard his voice, trying to convince her that 'no one can see or hear us, let's just do it here in the pool'.

Ah, the crazy days of yesteryear.
    Have fun and sail safe!
