    2018 49er & 49er FX North Americans

The Richmond Yacht Club hosted the 2018 49er & FX North Americans over the weekend, in conditions that stayed in the
sub 20's but drenched in sunshine. The fleet, comprised of Olympic hopefuls, mostly from other parts of the country,
and two teams from Canada, most of whom will inger through this week to do additional training via the Treasure Island Sailing Center.

The RC managed to squeeze in 15 races over 4 days...

Everyone came to the 49er NA’s fun in the breeze.

The Bezerkeley Flats didn’t disappoint dishing out a standard SF Bay heavy rinse cycle.
Winning crewman Ian McDairmid, while putting his boat away could only praise, “Gorgeous, Great Conditions.”

Still on the last day’s last race according Ian, skipper Andrew Mollerus “snapped off a tiller extension” on their first jibe which lead to a “pretty far gone next jibe” (aka capsize). Ended up finishing 4th and yet still won overall.

Mollerus nabbed 7 bullets in 15 races.

Four points back and for all intents and purposes joined 20 ticks perpetually back at the hip from the leaders were Ian Barrow and Mitchell Kiss.

Canadian Tej Trevor Parekh was third.

    The wind how bad?

The Bay was kind: mostly around 12 knots.

Chop at its worst in the merciful 18” sort of stuff.

The 49er FXs also races Local Neil Marcelllini in spite of missing a whole day of racing won quietly handily.

The Richmond Yacht Club hosted this event and is delighted all the racers had a good time.
After all the club motto is “This club is built for having fun.”

You would think that the US could come up with more teams for the North Americans.

Or are we just narrowing down the pool?
