Maserati Damage to mainsheet and to stb. rudder-Middle Sea Race

After a poor start then leading for a while Maserati ran out of luck again. Something happened to her stb rudder(the one that broke before and/or during every race she has yet sailed) and to the mainsheet hydraulics. Damn shame.
    Team Maserati Update:

DAMAGES ABOARD MASERATI MULTI 70 WHILE APPROACHING SICILY. SOLDINI: “WE KEEP GOING”

    October 20, 2018
A few hours after the start (15:30 local, 13:30 UTC) Giovanni Soldini and Maserati Multi 70‘s team were busy in a tack race with their rival PowerPlay approaching Capo Passero, the extreme southeastern point of Sicily.

The Italian crew encountered a technical problem with the main sheet’s hydraulic piston. The oil that lubricates the system slowly dropped in the air chamber and the crew wasn’t able to haul in the mainsail. “We emptied the air chamber” explains Giovanni Soldini. “The downside is that the mainsheet is slower to ease and it can be more dangerous sometimes so we will have to be more careful.”

An hour later, the right-side rudder’s fitting broke. “We still don’t know how it happened, we don’t think it was because of an impact, we are now looking into the causes” commented the skipper.

In spite of the damage, Maserati Multi 70 is still slightly in advantage over PowerPlay. “Without the rudder we will surely have many problems sailing port tack, but we keep going and we will do our best!”

    MASERATI leading!

At 11:47am eastern PP is still well behind and doing 15 knots while Maserati is doing 24.6........Maserati is about to round Lampedusa, the last major turning mark after which she'll be on continuous port tack. There is a possibility that she can't foil on port tack unless they ensure that the central rudder foil remains in the water-a bit dicey considering the mainsheet can't be adjusted like normal....

    Go Maserati!

Wow-Maserati is around the island and headed home. She just did 28.9 knots!!

    Maserati Flying!

At 2pm eastern Maserati appears to be 30-40 miles ahead of Power Play .Power Play is doing 20.7 knots and Maserati is doing 25.6 knots.
Seems like they must be able to fly the boat w/o the stb rudder-even though coupled with their mainsheet problem it would be a bit dicey....

    Go Maserati!!!

Seems to me that Maserati is the first full flying foiler to win the Middle Sea Race TWICE, although last time was because the other Mod 70 made a wrong turn-literally. I think Maserati is the first full flying foiler to win any ocean race?
