Rescue Effort Goes Awry New Angel Island

A 911 caller reported that two minor children were ejected from a private boat around 7 p.m. Sunday. The children were struck by the vessel during the recovery effort, Chief Deputy Coroner Roger Fielding said.
The children were pulled aboard the vessel and taken to the Corinthian Yacht Club in Tiburon. An 11-year-old boy suffered traumatic injuries and was pronounced dead at the yacht club, Fielding said. The second child was taken to a hospital.
The boy's name will not be released due to his age, Fielding said.

Belvedere father faces manslaughter charges after boating incident kills son

A Belvedere man has been arrested in connection with a fatal boating accident that killed his 11-year-old son near Angel Island, Tiburon police said.

Javier A. Burillo, who turns 58 on Thursday, was booked into Marin County Jail on Sunday on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter with a vessel, willful harm or injury to a child and operating a boat while under the influence. His bail was set at $1 million.

It was reported at 7 p.m. that two victims who were passengers on a 35-foot Protector boat were thrown overboard in open waters near Angel Island, Tiburon police Chief Mike Cronin said.
The second victim, 27, is also Burillo’s son.

According to reports, the boat struck the two victims in the water during the recovery, authorities said.
Both were pulled aboard and transported to the Corinthian Yacht Club in Tiburon.

The 11-year-old, whose name is not being released due to his age, was pronounced dead at the yacht club docks, authorities said.

The 27-year-old suffered lacerations to his leg and was transported to Marin General Hospital.
It was not immediately known whether the victims were wearing life jackets.

The cause and manner of death is pending a post-mortem examination and toxicology testing scheduled for this week.
The incident is under investigation by the Tiburon Police Department, the United States Coast Guard and the Marin County Sheriff’s Office.

Hate to see that happen, something similar happened out in Disco Bay this weekend.

Apparently the two boys were in the bow and the father was hightailing it from SF to Tiburon
when they slammed into a wake or wave at the entry to Raccoon Strait, the boys flew out and the boat went right over them.

    Very sad.
