    Julien Dougherty RIP

Julien, who won the Bermuda Race in 2008 in Tenacious, his Beneteau 36.7, passed away yesterday. I don't have details but will post when I get them.

He was a really good guy and a pleasure to sail with. I'll miss him.

Very hard to believe. Knew him through the 36.7 fleet and SA. E-mail PMs and phone calls only, never had the opportunity to meet him in person. Seemed like a great guy with a sense of humor. I'll miss him even though I didn't know him well......

    Here's what I just received:

    Hello All,

As you have all heard by now we have lost a good sailor a stand up gentleman, and even better friend.

I had promised to share the details of Julien's services when they became available.

    The plan is as follows:

Location: Frank Campbell Funeral Home on 81st & Madison.

We are having two viewings Sat 9/11 from 2-5 & 6-8

I look forward to seeing you all at the service. The plans are to have a memorial service for him as well. His ashes will be spread on the ocean. Details regarding the memorial and spreading of the ashes to follow.

Please forward this to those I have missed.

Please give my regards Mike, wish I could make it. I only met Julien face to face once, he happened to be sailing with the 36.7 that was docked next to us in this years Ft Lauderdale to Key West Race, but many PM's on the other forum showed his true spirit. He will be missed.

I genuinely hope his spirit will be a catalyst for some good things in the sailing community, as it seems so down of late.

    Cheers,
    Graham Garrenton
