Just off the phone with USCG Station Monterey.

SNAFU did in fact dismast last night about 21:20 and was assisted by Azure and Junkyard Dog for a few hours.

USCG was contacted, and arrived on scene. Apparently they could not tow vessel into Morro Bay in sea state and
as of 0800 this morning, both Karl Robrock and Gilles Combrisson had been airlifted to SLP Airport. Both are in good shape but obviously cold from night at sea.

SNAFU was abandoned at sea, but no doubt, Karl and Gilles are working towards retrieving the beloved ride...

    Stay tuned

Coast Guard rescues 2 individuals from vessel in distress near Morro Bay

SAN PEDRO — Coast Guard rescues two individuals from a sailing vessel in distress approximately 31 miles northwest of Morro Bay, Calif., Monday.

Watchstanders at Sector Los Angeles-Long Beach command center received notification at 9:15 p.m., from the operator of the 24-foot sailing vessel, Snafu, reporting the vessel was beset by weather and experiencing a fouled mast.

Watchstanders immediately launched a 47-foot Motor Life Boat boatcrew from Station Morro Bay to assist. Upon arriving on scene, the boatcrew determined that the weather was too hazardous to conduct a safe tow of the vessel into the harbor. Coast Guard Sector Los Angeles-Long Beach watchstanders immediately assigned a safety patrol and radio communication schedule to monitor the status of the vessel until safer conditions were determined at daylight.

At first light Tuesday, a Coast Guard MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew from Forward Operating Base Point Mugu was launched to assist. The helicopter crew conducted a hoist of both individuals and transported them to San Luis Obispo Airport, to awaiting emergency medical services from the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection.

    No injuries were reported.

SNAFU seems to be self guided, wonder how they rigged it for the ride in?
